First Choice & Thesis

Being someones first choice is always flattering. Whether you're 5 and the team captain chooses you first for their soccer team or you're 15 and you're the first girl a boy calls to ask to a dance, being someones first choice is definitely better than being someones second, third, or tenth.

Being wanted never gets old, does it?

In the past few months I have been a "first choice" multiple times in various parts of my life. Don't get me wrong, this isn't meant to sound conceited, but rather to express my gratitude. I was taught to work hard, try my best and do what I deem to be right. Those things combined with a little bit of luck and you can pretty much achieve all of your dreams.

Thanks Mom & Dad -- you were totally right.

I have been incredibly blessed/lucky/fortunate in my life. The past two weeks have been no different. Although I received some bad news last week (that floored me and caused constant tears for approx. 48 hours), everything ended up working out. Not only that, but I found out through that experience that I wasn't even just an option for a different position, but that I was the #1 pick.

Everything always works out. (**Remind me of this when I'm neck deep in my thesis, course work, clinic prep & hours and work**)

In other news, I have a THESIS TOPIC. Not only that, but I have the most fantastic mentor/advisor on the planet.

Be jealous.

My mentor and I met this past week to discuss the topic and how to proceed with getting an IRB, doing a prospectus, etc. He then warned me of the project that I was facing, but just as quickly reassured me that he was confident in my ability and intelligence. I was flattered and may possibly have blushed. Okay... I definitely blushed. Seriously.

My thesis is focused on voice disorders and will be proving the efficacy of an objective form of
evaluating voice quality -- pre & post treatment. Although this may not sound fascinating to you, it makes me so excited inside that I kind of want to throw up. Just kidding.... It doesn't actually make me want to throw up. Only kind of.

I'm a nerd, I know.

  1. First, of course your textbook would ALREADY look like that. Second, I knew everything would work out! You are amazing and it does not surprise me that you were their #1 choice because you are simply spectacular! Love ya!
