Eek!

I've had two "eek" moments this week so far and I expect to have another one tomorrow.

First "eek" moment: I recently began a new job as a research assistant to one of my professors. I love, love, love this and am so happy to be back on campus again. My job is measuring the duration of vowels, closures, voicing and bursts in various target words placed in final and nonfinal positions. Catch that?

I've been doing English samples for the past three weeks. I'm really starting to get the hang of it and it's quite enjoyable. After finishing all of the English sentences by KM_M_109 (no joke), I began the German sentences by KM_M_109. Uhhh yeah. German. Eek.

Second "eek" moment: Yesterday afternoon I saw a friend post on Facebook that tuition bills were posted on Campus Information Systems. I had already run some numbers in Excel to estimate my cost of attendance for the semester, so I had a good idea of what my tuition would be.

Imagine my surprise when my tuition bill was $19,500. Um, yes, that is significantly more than I was expecting. After getting over the initial shock (aka wanting to pee my pants, vomit and cry all at the same time -- also whilst thinking "Why did I give up that massive BYU scholarship?!") I quickly got on the phone with the U about my tuition. Turns out there was a glitch and my tuition bill now says what I had budgeted for. Definitely an "eek" moment.

My expected "eek" moment for tomorrow is my meeting with a woman at work who is bring in Russian samples for me to analyze. Eeeeeek.

Help.

  1. Hang in there! And thank goodness your tuition for one semester is NOT $19k. That would be a major eek.
