Lately, with all of my free time, I have been embracing my passions and finding new interests. I've found myself playing the piano, running loads more and have even been hiking. I've also been doing a whole lot more cooking and baking (much to CBF's delight).
I recently went to my beautiful cousin's wedding. Katie married the most wonder man named Colin and their ceremony, wedding luncheon and reception were all so fun.
(My dress was yellow and white -- I promise it was not all white even though it looks like that here.White is the absolute worst color to wear to a wedding, closely followed by black!)
While at the wedding luncheon, I had tasted the most wonderful dessert ever. In fact, I didn't even know what to call them until the person who made them (Canessa Leeflang) blogged about the luncheon. As soon as I had my first bite, I knew I had to find a recipe and make them. Stat.
What started out as a fun activity turned into a three hour event. It began with making a chocolate cake, breaking it up into very fine pieces and then mixing into the cake about 75% of a frosting can. I then used an ice cream scoop to make the cake & frosting into small, one inch
balls and put them all on a tray. My hands were sooo gooey & chocolaty by the end of this. I then took the tray and stuck it into the fridge for about an hour.
After jump roping for 45 minutes and talking to Alex on the phone for a bit, I pulled my delicious cake balls out of the refrigerator.
Next I heated up candy coating in the microwave. I then used lolly pop sticks that I bought at Michaels (remember my birth control experience there?). I dipped the stick into the hot chocolate candy coating and then stuck it into the cold
chocolate ball. Then I dipped the whole chocolate ball into the candy coating and made sure that it was completely covered in chocolate goodness.
After the whole ball was covered in chocolate, I then put some sprinkles on for fun and immediately put them into Styrofoam to finish cooling.
I anxiously waited for my first one to finish cooling and the second the candy coating was hardened I took a bite.
Aaaaamazing.
I dipped and sprinkled for about the next hour and a half. In fact, CBF came home to me in a sports bra and shorts (my jump rope clothes) still baking and decorating.
(Here's a photo of the final product -- not perfectly symmetrical, but not bad for my first time)
Although it took me almost a whole afternoon to do this little activity, it was more than worth it. I had 40 beautiful, yummy cake pops and shared them with my fam, grandpa, some neighbors and a couple of friends.
Feel free to call me a domestic goddess.
