What? More Graduate School?!

Honestly, I'm not even sure where to begin! I pretty much suck at blogging, but that goes without saying... Right?

There's been too much to even cover, so I'm tempted to not even try... BUT, I probably should. So to start, I will touch on some big education decisions that are coming up in our near future.

Since we have been engaged, our five-year-plan was pretty much set out. I would have two years to earn my Master's in Speech-Language Pathology. Following the completion my Master's, it would be CBF's turn to return to school and earn his MBA. Then maybe kids after we had both finished.

Then, a wonderful, amazing, wrench was thrown in this plan. Truly, we have "good" problems.

I have always been interested in working toward a Ph.D. Something about research and the idea of teaching on top of having my own clinic has always enticed me. Dream big, right? If you don't set big goals for yourself, then no one else will. (Thanks Mom & Dad!)

I had a conversation with a faculty member in August 2011 about a Ph.D. and some numbers were thrown around about salary while working on a doctoral degree. After realizing I wouldn't be paying for a doctoral degree - I'd be paid for earning one - CBF and I started re-thinking our original plans. After an iiiiintense conversation with my thesis advisor in October, a Ph.D. became a real possibility. Work for the department while doing research, earn a generous income while working ten hours a week, have my tuition waived, and - wait for it - finish in three years. Three! All of these are bonuses on top of working with the voice researcher.

Good problems to have, eh?

All the while, CBF and I have been touring schools for him. He's been completing the application process, taking the GMAT, and networking like mad. This year we've visited New York City, Phoenix, and Baltimore his schooling. It's been expensive, but oh so fun.

Here are some photos:
We took the red eye to NYC and immediately went to the Statue of Liberty. Holy tiring, but so fun.

We love 30 Rock. So excited for the new season to start!

Align Center
Seeing "How to Succeed in Business" for CBF's 27th. He loveeed it.

Baltimore. We loved Inner Harbor, where the B-school is located.

In all honesty, we didn't love Baltimore as a city. It was actually kind of a sketch. But we found the most AMAZING Turkish restaurant. This was probably one of my favorite meals of my life.

AZ in August. Pretty much every time we got into our hotel, CBF stripped and jumped into a cold shower. This picture pretty accurately represents our trip.
So, here's where we're at (in case you care, although you probably don't -- this is more for us to refer back to anyway :):

Once I receive a monetary offer in writing, and CBF is accepted to programs he's dying to go to, we'll make some decisions. Until then, it's not worth counting your chickens until they hatch, right?
