Well, it scared me enough for me to realize that we would not be prepared if something happened like that. My family is prepared, and as such so are we so long as we live in their basement apartment... But with CBF applying to/interviewing at locations across the country, I realized that we definitely need to be independently prepared. After all, we will move and be wholly responsible for ourselves soon.
So began the construction of our 72 hour kits.
They take a lot more time (and money) than I had expected, but nevertheless, I am determined to finish them.
I downloaded a list of suggested items, and began purchasing/collecting them on Monday. I'm convinced that by the end of this week, I will have them ready to go. I'll post pictures of them soon when they're complete!

This post is inspiring since we have very similar situations. Mike and I need to get emergency kits going... because his parents food storage won't be there forever!
